Patient Story

Caroline Donaldson’s life took an unexpected turn when a stroke left her unable to move or speak. Despite these challenges, Caroline’s determination and the exceptional care at Runnymede Healthcare Centre have guided her on an inspiring path to recovery.

Caroline’s journey to Runnymede began after a series of health challenges, including brain surgery and time spent at other facilities that didn’t meet her needs. Reflecting on her arrival at Runnymede, she shares, “When I found out I was coming here, I was overjoyed. I said to myself, ‘this is where I’ll get better.’”

Her early days at Runnymede were both challenging and transformative. The dedicated physiotherapists pushed her to achieve more than she thought possible. “George and Gabriel were tough, but kind. They never let me give up,” she says, recalling how they encouraged her to push through her initial limitations.

Caroline vividly remembers the progress she’s made. “When I first came, I couldn’t lift my arm or move my foot. Now, I can walk and do things I never thought I’d do again.” These achievements are a testament to her resilience and the comprehensive care she received. From physiotherapists to housekeeping staff, Caroline felt supported at every step. “The staff here are excellent. They care deeply and help each other to ensure we all recover.”

As Caroline prepares to return home, her gratitude shines through. “The team here has given me a second chance. I’m stronger, more confident, and ready to face the world again.” Her plans for her first day back? “I’m going to enjoy a cup of tea in my own kitchen—a small victory that means everything.”
