Susan Fawcett’s life changed dramatically after a serious fall left her stranded at home, alone and unable to move for two days, before first responders managed to intervene. The traumatic experience brought her to Runnymede Healthcare Centre, where she has been on a challenging but inspiring journey to reclaim her independence.
Upon arriving at the center, Susan felt overwhelmed and unsure of what was in store for her. She recalls, “First impressions, I was in awe because I was not sure what I was getting myself into.” Those early days were difficult, filled with uncertainty and a yearning for security. “When you’ve been in my kind of position, you need security… you’re just hoping for it,” she reflects, her voice tinged with emotion.
Over time, however, Susan found solace in the sense of community that Runnymede fostered. The dedicated Runnymede staff and fellow patients helped her realize she wasn’t facing her challenges alone. Daily encouragement and thoughtful gestures, like book recommendations tailored to the retired teacher’s love of learning, kept her spirits high and her mind active. This supportive environment gradually restored her confidence and provided her with a network of people who truly understood and empathized with her journey.
Since arriving at Runnymede, Susan has made remarkable strides in her recovery. With the aid of her walker, she now moves with increasing independence, each step a testament to her resilience and determination. Therapy sessions focused on strength and balance have played a pivotal role in her progress, while the staff’s unwavering care and guidance have empowered her to push past her limits.
As Susan confidently navigates the hallways of Runnymede, her determination shines through—proof that with perseverance and the right support, even the most daunting obstacles can be overcome.
