Patient Story

Yolanda Lasala’s story is one of resilience, cultural connections, and strong connection to her roots and family. Born in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, she has spent decades abroad, with her journey ultimately bringing her to Runnymede Healthcare Centre after a fall left her needing rehabilitation.

When Yolanda first arrived, she didn’t fully understand how she ended up at Runnymede. “I woke up and realized I was here,” she recounts. Her fall, which occurred in the elevator of her apartment during a power outage, led to significant challenges with mobility. However, her time at Runnymede became a turning point. “The therapy here helped me so much,” Yolanda said. “They help people like me, who couldn’t do much before.”

Yolanda’s progress is a testament to the care she received and her determination to regain independence. While her physical recovery remains ongoing, she’s optimistic and proud of her improvements. “I can walk now. I like the bicycle exercises – they really helped me get stronger,” she explains.

As Yolanda prepares to return to the Philippines, her excitement is palpable, “I can’t wait to see my grandchildren. I miss them so much.”  For Yolanda, the long flight is daunting, but her dream of reconnecting with family and enjoying her favorite pastimes – watching movies and visiting the local market – is worth the journey.

Yolanda’s journey underscores the importance of community, resilience, and a steadfast hope for the future. Her time at Runnymede has equipped her with the strength to embark on her next chapter, surrounded by loved ones and the life she’s worked so hard to reclaim.
